I would like to tell you about my favourite capital. I know sucha proverb as “East or West, home is best”, but I think there are many beautifulcountries and cities in the world and we must visit it to know something new about our planet.
So, my favourite capital citi is Cairo in Egypt, because my father lived there for 5 years and he told me a lot about this beautiful country, aspecially about the capital of Egypt-Cairo.
The area of Egypt is more than 100 thousand km. Cairo is the biggest city in Africa. It’s also the biggest port of Egypt in Cairo-Alexandria, the airport, the railway.. The population of Cairo is more than 7 million people.
You can see many schools,universities, theatres and cinemas in Cairo. This city is very famous because there are many libraries and museums there. The most beautiful one is “The big Egyptian museum”, where you can see a lot of pharaohs,mummies, pieces of paper with hieroglyphics, pyramids.
Pyramids are very big stone buildings.Most of them have a square base and four sides. The sides are triangles which meet at the top. The greatest pyramid builders were the Ancient Egyptians. Their pyramids were built as tombs for their kings. The first pyramid was built at Saqqara and was 62 metres high. The most famous pyramids in the world are at Gizeh which is near cairo. The biggest of the three pyramids is Khufu’s pyramid, which is 137 metres high. Because it is the largest pyramid in the world, Khufus pyramid is called the Great Pyramid. It was built from more than 2 million blocks of stone. Some of these blocks weigh more than fifteen tonnes. 100.000 men worked for 20 years to built the Great Pyramid.
The pyramids of gizeh were one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World. They are the only one of the 7 wonders which can still be seen today. The pyramids are the symbol of Egypt. You can see pictures of them on postages stanps, T-shirts and restaurants.
There is also a big river in Egypt, which you can see near Cairo. It’s Nile. There are many ports and factories on it.
The most common language in Egypt is Arabic. But in Cairo people often use English and French.
The religion in Egyypt is Islam. This religion preach 90%of population. Another part prefer Christianity.
The weather in Cairo isn’t very good. It’s very hot there. But winters are warm. There isn’t snow in Egypt. But in summer you can see many tourists in Cairo because it’s very pleasantly to swim in the Red Sea and to lie in the sun.
Cairo is a very developed city. And people are very kind and friendly.
I want to go to Cairo, because it’s a very big and beautiful city. My father told me a lot about this wonderful capital – Cairo and now I want to see it with my eyes. It’s my dream and I hope it will come true very soon. |
